About Sarah and Lucy
Dr Sarah Cross
Consultant Clinical Psychologist, Parent,
Advocate for Neurodivergent Children and Families
Hi, I’m Sarah — a psychologist, a mum, and someone who’s spent most of her life trying to understand what helps people feel safe, seen, and supported.
Parenting a neurodivergent daughter has taught me that real understanding doesn’t come from textbooks — it comes from living it, every day.
As a Psychologist, I thought I knew what it meant to be autistic or to have ADHD. I thought I understood the daily challenges parents face — the advocacy, the worry, the trying to make sense of behaviour that doesn’t fit the typical mould. I prided myself on being empathic and informed.
How wrong I was.
It wasn’t until I had my wonderful AuDHD daughter that I truly got it. I began to see the world through her eyes — the beauty, the intensity, the overwhelm, the need for space and safety, and the moments of pure joy when things finally click. I started to understand what it means to navigate systems that don’t quite fit, to advocate with love and exhaustion in equal measure, and to celebrate progress that others might never notice.
That experience changed everything for me. It changed how I practise, how I listen, and how I help.
So when I meet with families, my focus isn’t on “fixing” a child or handing out strategies from a manual. It’s about slowing things down. It’s about understanding what’s really going on underneath — what a child is trying to communicate, what the parent is feeling, and what the family as a whole needs to feel calmer, safer, and more connected.
I work collaboratively, compassionately, and always through a neuro-affirming lens. Because difference isn’t a problem to be solved — it’s something to be understood and embraced.
Over the years, I’ve worked across the NHS, education, and private practice, supporting children, parents, and professionals. But what matters most to me now is using all that knowledge — and the hard-won lessons from my own parenting journey — to make life a little easier, a little clearer, and a lot more hopeful for the families I work with. Because I know what it feels like to be there — and I know how powerful it can be when someone finally says: “I get it."

Consultant Forensic Psychologist, Parent,
Advocate for Neurodivergent Children and Families
I know how overwhelming it can be to navigate hospital appointments, assessments, waiting lists, and endless forms while trying to make sure your child is supported at home and in school. I also know the joy in the moments that others might overlook — the steps forward that feel like huge victories.
Those experiences guide my work every single day.
I specialise in working with neurodivergent children, including autistic children, those with Trisomy 21 (Down Syndrome), and children with sensory differences. My approach is grounded in compassion, collaboration, and creating a safe, affirming space where families feel heard, supported, and understood.
This lived understanding sits alongside my professional expertise as a HCPC-Registered Practitioner Psychologist. I qualified in 2010 and have over 20 years of experience supporting children, teenagers, young adults, and families. Over the years, I’ve worked across a range of services, including the NHS, and I’m passionate about helping families and professionals build supportive systems and environments where neurodivergent children feel safe, valued, and able to reach their full potential.
I work closely with parents, carers, and professionals to tailor support around each child’s unique strengths and needs. My goal is always to help families build confidence, clarity and improved wellbeing. I believe psychological support should be practical, accessible, and genuinely useful, so my recommendations are always realistic and designed to create lasting, positive change in everyday life.
Alongside my work with families, I support professionals (including educational settings) to make thoughtful, sustainable adjustments that benefit not only individual children but whole groups or environments. When we create inclusive settings, everyone thrives.
